Mahwah Public Library
Public Safety Statement

Your library is a public building. Its administration, employees, and volunteers consider themselves subject to the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics, and promote the information rights of all citizens under the First Amendment to the Constitution and the Library Bill of Rights.

Library policy is in place to promote the general safety and well-being of all staff and patrons on library property, and is exercised equitably without respect to patron origin, age, background, or views. Library administration, employees, and volunteers are NOT authorized to assume responsibility for the safety or behavior of children, or of adults age 18 and over who are under the care of a legal guardian. Patrons are recommended not to leave any such individuals at the library unattended.

Injuries incurred in the library should be reported to staff, who are authorized to summon emergency medical help as appropriate but who are NOT authorized to administer medical treatment.

In the interest of public and personal safety, all patrons are advised to exercise reasonable caution. In the interest of a free and fair library environment, all patrons are requested to respect the rights, property, and privacy of others.

Inappropriate or unsafe behavior anywhere on library property may be reported to the Mahwah Police Department.
